Phacoemulsification: Considerations for Astigmatism Management
نویسندگان
چکیده
Patient expectations for cataract surgery have increased significantly over the past several decades as surgeons have transitioned from standard extracapsular techniques to clear-cornea phacoemulsification. In addition to short operating times, topical anesthesia, and a sutureless procedure, patients increasingly expect spectacle independence following cataract extraction. In this tutorial we present the case of a 59-year-old man with a visually-significant cataract and consider the intraoperative management of astigmatism in a representative case of an individual with small-to-moderate cylindrical error.

Use of a Toric Intraocular Lens and a Limbal-Relaxing Incision for the Management of Astigmatism in Combined Glaucoma and Cataract Surgery
PURPOSE We report the surgical management of a patient with glaucoma undergoing cataract surgery with high preexisting astigmatism. A combination of techniques was employed for her astigmatism management. METHODS A 76-year-old female with 5.5 dpt of corneal astigmatism underwent surgery in her left eye consisting of one-site trabeculectomy, phacoemulsification, toric intraocular lens implanta...

Introduction: This small study relates our early experiences with the Limbal Relaxing Incision (LRI) for management of astigmatism in patients undergoing cataract surgery. Aims: To evaluate the efficacy of LRI in the management of primary astigmatism when combined with phacoemulsification. Subjects and methods: Limbal relaxing incisions were performed to correct primary astigmatism in 12 eyes o...
